Chairing Meetings

Aim
This programme is for anyone who is involved in chairing meetings and wishes to improve their effectiveness when organising and running meetings. The main aim of the programme is to raise awareness of the key issues which ensure meetings run smoothly and achieve their purpose. The course also considers and practises the main roles and responsibilities of the chair.
By the end of this course you will be better able to:

  • Decide when a meeting is appropriate
  • Understand the purpose of the meeting
  • List meeting rules
  • Know why liaising with the minute taker is vital to accurate, brief and clear minutes
  • Identify the roles and responsibilities of meeting members, the chair and the secretary
  • Describe the format and the best sequence for agenda
  • Lead, facilitate and summarise as required
  • Be aware of group behaviour and the importance of non-verbal communication
  • Handle challenging behaviour and keep order at the meeting
